There are two types of people in this world: People who prefer the country and those who are all about the big city life. Sometimes you love your hometown and wouldn’t trade it for the world. Other times, however, you feel as though you were born in the wrong place and long for a change of scenery.
That being said, how do you know if you’re truly a city girl at heart, especially if you’re from a rural community and your only experience with skyscrapers and bustling crowds is through movies, books, and television shows? Don’t you worry: here are 12 tell-tale signs you’re destined to roam through sidewalks filled with tourists, shoppers, and savvy professionals!
1. You enjoy having easy access to stores and eateries at odd hours.

You’re a night owl so early closing times just don’t cut it. If you’re hungry at an unusual hour, you’d like to have several options available to you. Sadly, this doesn’t occur much in small towns; you’re lucky if a pizza parlor stays open past 8, to be honest!
2. You eat out more than you’d like to admit.

One of the benefits of living in the city is that there’s a whole world of delicious cuisine to explore. Thai? Italian? A fusion of both? YES PLEASE.
3. You’re unfazed by lack of personal space.

In the country and suburbs, there is plenty of space. Each house has a sprawling yard and people get around via cars. However, in the city public transportation is the name of the game and you can’t walk two feet without bumping into someone. That being said, if you’re okay with riding the train and don’t mind it when strangers infiltrate your personal space, then you’ll fit in just fine. You have the courage and cool-girl nonchalance required to make it!
4. Obnoxious traffic sounds are basically white noise to you.

Some people might find themselves overwhelmed by all the nonstop loudness. But you can easily tune out all those wailing sirens, honking cars, and loud conversations.
5. You get bored really easily.

Let’s face it: being limited to only a few activities can certainly put a damper on your weekend. That’s why cities are AMAZING! You can hit up a secret concert or book reading, attend a fancy fundraiser to support a great cause while looking fab, enroll in unique classes outside your comfort zone, and/or roam around a lush botanical garden when you’re searching for your inner zen. You need exciting options to keep you entertained, and you’re smart enough to know it’s all about location location location.
6. You’re an extrovert.

Large crowds of people don’t intimated you; instead, they energize you! You’re always up for meeting new people with different interests than you, and you definitely know how to work a room when you show up to a party.
7. You’re very ambitious.

Not that we’re saying people in small towns aren’t ambitious. But usually you can only go so far in your career when most hedge funds and editorial/music/fashion companies are located in New York City, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan, etc. People in the city tend to have a really clear goal of what they want to do, and are all about networking. They know how to hustle in order to rise to the top.
8. All of your favorite movies and TV shows take place in the city.

Sex and the City? Gossip Girl? 30 Rock? Girls? If are currently residing in a small town, you’re probably living out your fantasy of strutting with your girls to the hottest lounge to hit the scene through fictional characters. You love shows and movies where a city is a huge part of the plot, and thanks to them, you know exactly where you’re meant to be.
9. You’re obsessed with fashion and beauty.

You watch all the runway live feeds during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and hope to one day see all the hottest collections up close from the coveted front row. Also you don’t go anywhere without some kind of makeup on. If you live in a small town, you could still do this — but there’s nothing like being surrounded by men and women who live and breath style and don’t ever fear being “overdressed.”
10. You’re not a fan of nature.

Camping is definitely the worst, and you would gladly trade in grass for concrete. You don’t really enjoy bugs or participating in outdoor activities, so living on the countryside is not exactly your cup of tea. The closest you’ll ever get to being one with nature is a massive street fair.
11. Art inspires you and it’s a very big part of your life.

Maybe you’re an innovative creator who doesn’t want to collect pieces, but yearns to be part of the art world full-time. Perhaps you just really appreciate paintings, sculptures and controversial installments and long to be in a place where all that is accessible to you. The city is great for such folks because it’s packed with cultural events and educational workshops galore.
12. You prefer a twinkling skyline to mountains.

Yes rolling hills can be beautiful to look at, but you’re more swept away by tall buildings and how they lights up a dark sky. You look at them with wonder and dream about all the adventures and opportunities a posh metropolis could lead to.
