Everyone has their preferences when it comes to seasons. Winter, summer, fall, and spring each have their high and low points. However, if you ask us, autumn is the best one hands down! It’s the season of change, the season of cozy style, and the season of pumpkin-flavored everything.
Need more convincing that this is truly the most festive time of the year? Here are twelve reasons fall is the most breathtaking season of all — and why you should appreciate every single minute of it!
1. You get to witness the trees change colors right before your very eyes.
There really is nothing quite as magnificent as seeing leaves transition from shades of green into a vibrant burst of red, orange, and gold hues. It makes you want to press pause on your high-paced lifestyle and marvel in the beauty that is nature, even if you’re not exactly a fan of the great outdoors. The summer is all about pretty-yet-typical flowers, and snow easily turns gray and dirty. Autumn leaves, on the contrary, are full of variety and basically the epitome of perfection.
2. You get to wear cute sweaters without having to layer on top of them.
Sweaters are warm and comfortable. However, even if your office/classroom are freezing thanks to the AC being kept on high blast year round, if it’s too hot outside, you can’t really slip one over your head and call it a day. And if it’s winter, the weather is usually so cold you have to cover your cozy outfits with a heavy coat, and thus, no one can see them. Fall offers just the right amount of chill in the air for you to properly show off all of the cute sweaters you’ve been storing away.
3. Pumpkin everything.
It’s pretty much common knowledge that pumpkin spice instantly makes everything better. Everyone is ordering pumpkin lattes this time of year. Everyone is eating pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Everyone is carving them for them decoration. It’s the season during which pumpkins shamelessly rule our lives, and we are totally okay with it. And if you’re not down with this flavor? It’s okay because hot, fresh apple cider tastes just as divine!
4. You get to dressed up as anything you’d like to for Halloween.
Once Halloween rolls around, it’s officially the start of the holiday season. Many people don’t appreciate this eerie day as much as others, but it’s downright amazing. Halloween not only fills your social calendar with numerous parties and costume balls to attend, but it also blesses you with the opportunity to play dress-up — thus allowing your imagination run wild in terms of turning yourself into someone — or something — else. It also gives you the perfect excuse to eat as much candy as your heart desires.
5. It’s also the most spooktacular time of year.
Costumes aside, people who relish all things scary also enjoy the fall because it offers a long array of spooky activities. Haunted houses? Check. Spooky hayrides? Sure. Telling urban legends around a campfire while feasting on smores? Yes please! Plus television networks love to replay all the horror classics and creepy children’s movies you grew up with. An encore performance of Hocus Pocus? Don’t mind if we do!
6. Thanksgiving!
Another holiday that revolves around ample food, good cheer, and revelry? Yes please! Thanksgiving is an awesome pre-game to Christmas that usually involves family, football, Thanksgiving-themed episodes of your favorite shows, and plenty of pie (although the delicious, indulgent side dishes are nothing to scoff at). It’s also a time of year when you get to see all your relatives — even the annoying ones — and catch up with everyone.
7. All of your favorite shows come back.
The summer is just one long season of repeats and binge watching Netflix. Sure, there are always new, exciting episodes of Pretty Little Liars to look forward to, but we need more to satiate our television addiction. Thankfully, when the fall hits you can finally see what your favorite characters (oh hey there, Salvatore brothers!) have been up to and see what those nail-biting cliffhangers were all about. It’s a nice compensation for having to go back to school and saying goodbye to leisurely afternoons.
8. People are no longer suffering from heat exhaustion.
If you’re stuck with no air conditioning, then good luck! Summer days might be longer and more laid-back, but one major downside is having to deal with a brutal heat wave. (Living it up on the beach or enjoying a hike are hard to do when you’re basically melting.) Thankfully, autumn weather offers us some relief and doesn’t make us long for a shower the instant we step outside.
9. Football is back, baby!
For the Super Bowl fanatics out there, this season is everything. Your team gets to begin again with a clean slate, and you get to root for them every week. It gives you something to talk about with all of your sports-obsessed buddies again.
10. Which also means Fantasy Football is back.
You spent the whole time during the off-season keeping up with all the players. You have a new strategy, fresh knowledge, and more determination than ever before to win official bragging rights. It’s finally time to put all of that to good use because fantasy football is starting up again. This is definitely your year so go on and show everyone what you’ve got!
11. Fierce boots everywhere.
Autumn inspires you to step up your footwear game. No more sweaty feet in sandals or flip flops! It’s officially boot season, and the weather is perfect for it. Sure you can wear them in the winter, but fall doesn’t come with piles of snow that can potentially ruin your gorgeous booties, oxfords, and heels.
12. Love is in the air.
Summer is more about flings and having whimsical, laid-back fun. But there is something about autumn that makes people want to cuddle up to each other and settle into relationships for the long stretch of winter months ahead. Perhaps it’s the cooler weather. Or the romantic notion of going apple picking with a partner and snapping sweet photos together amid the orchards. Or maybe it’s because everyone knows couple costumes are the best. Still, there is something about fall and its nostalgic merriment that makes many people more open to the idea of seeking out meaningful connections.
