12 Tell-Tale Signs You’re Already Over Winter

A new year is upon us, the holiday decorations have been packed away, and winter has arrived in full force. After weeks of chilly — and surprisingly mild — weather, the bitter cold has officially settled in and it feels as though the earth has frozen over. Numb fingers and runny noses, anyone? No thanks.

That being said, are you already dreading the long stretch of short days and frigid temperatures that lie ahead?  Here are twelve signs that you are 100% over in winter and eager to usher in spring:

1. All you can think about is the worst of winter has yet to come.

In the beginning, winter isn’t so bad. You can throw on a sweater and enjoy a toasty caramel latte. There are pleasant things to look forward to such as holiday songs and the release of major films. But in the dead middle of winter it’s dark, wet, and not at all merry and bright. Instead of enjoying the start of it, you are dreading the coming months. Brr.

2. All you do is complain about the weather.

Some people thrive in the cold months, but if you hate this season then chances are you’re already going on about how much they suck. When one of your Facebook friends, who lives in a warmer region, whines about 60 degrees, you seriously consider blocking them from your page and your life. You’re miserable and not afraid to let everyone else know it.

3. You are already blasting the heater.

Most people try to wait a while before going crazy with the heater, but you turned that dial straight up! And in case that wasn’t toasty enough for you, you throw in a couple of blankets. Winter might overstay its welcome, but you refuse to shiver you way through it.

4. You’re already planning a get-away to much warmer destination.

Swimsuits. Sandals. Blended beverages by the beach. Why should you be forced to brave the cold when you could be basking in the sun instead?

5. The idea of a fresh start in the new year doesn’t appeal to you.

You want to be positive and reevaluate your goals and aspirations, but all you can focus on is how terrible the roads will be, shoveling snow, and the sun disappearing at 5 p.m.

6. The darkness makes you want to remain in bed all day long.

A lot of vampires people can get by without much sun in their lives — but you’re not one of them. Winter is the worst and you’d rather hibernate until it’s all over. If bears can do it, why can’t you?

7. Your warm weather clothes are already out.

A lot of people gush about sweater weather, but it’s nice to wear them out of choice instead of necessity. In a perfect world, you could wear a sweater one day and your favorite sundress another. Sadly, you get into a fashion rut and confine yourself to a pile of itchy sweaters, topped off by a parka. that is, of course, until the weather gets warmer and the world goes back to being a colorful, wonderful place.

8. You’re still clinging onto your pumpkin-flavored everything.

There is that sweet little overlap of autumn and winter where you can get pumpkin and cider-flavored treats and beverages. The winter options, however? They just don’t cut it. If you’re the type to be dreading the impending season, then you’re picking pumpkin over peppermint.

9. You try to come up with any excuse to not go outside.

Your friends might be okay with hitting up the town when winter gets its frost on, but you do everything in your power to avoid it. Why can’t other people understand that all you want to do is disappear for a few months and remain indoors? You become very selective on what you will actually leave your place for, and your social life becomes practically non-existent. Oh well.

10. Just the thought of shoveling snow makes you want to cry.

Sure the snow might be beautiful (at first) but it comes with a price. This added chore is enough to ruin even the happiest person’s day. Waking up early, straining to push snow, and possibly falling on ice will make anyone want to bop a shovel over cruel winter’s head.

11. You’re counting down the days until Groundhog Day.

You have a love-hate relationship with your local groundhog. That little fur-ball better not be scared of his shadow this year because six more weeks of winter sounds downright awful. (Yes, you’ve taken superstitions to a whole new level and aren’t ashamed to admit it; that’s all you have to say on this matter.)

12. Every time “Let It Go” comes on and you hear the line “the cold never bother me anyway,” you want to throw a snowball in Elsa’s face.

Nobody likes a braggart. Now be quiet and retreat to your ice castle.

Tell us, lovelies: Do you embrace the cold weather or do you immediately jump under the covers and await the arrival of spring?
